The Unexpected Day Off

I have worked at my hospital for almost 4 years now {in May}. And in those 4 years, I have never missed a day of work {on accident}. I have never messed up my schedule. Never got days confused. Never. Just not like me to not have my schedule memorized. And then on top of that, I'm the double check, triple check kinda girl.
And a couple weeks ago, I made my first mistake {in 4 years}, where I showed up to work on a day I wasn't scheduled. I had my weeks mixed up, and when I showed up to work to not find my name on the assignment board, my mind went all sorts of places. I drove all the way here for nothing. The things I could have accomplished today. I could have put E to bed. The snuggles with the husband. Oh, and...this just sucks.
However, there are worse situations. Such as, not showing up to work on a night that you are scheduled.

Why yes, I did that too a couple of days ago. In a matter of two weeks, I make two huge scheduling mistakes and I am left thinking... pregnancy brain? {No worries, not pregnant... just saying}. But honestly I freaked when I received a phone call from work Sunday night saying that "You are supposed to work, call us back." Palms sweating, nerves up the roof.
Thankfully, my supervisor was very understanding, they just happened to be overstaffed, and I was needed on another day more. Which means I wasn't required to come in that night and I was able to enjoy the rest of my Sunday with the husband and baby girl.

We also made a couple changes, and although I was supposed to work the next night {Monday}, we changed it so that I didn't have to come in until Tuesday. Which means.... another extra day off.
So come Monday morning, I wake up feeling as though THIS day was going to be an amazing day. A mama and daughter day. A enjoy-the-weather and life kinda day. And I was determined to cross a few things off my to-do list. And that I did.

We spent the rest of the day going to the library, running errands, heading to the park, and lots of mama daughter kisses.
And I have to mention the library here for memory purposes. E seriously cracks me up. This child is wild, but tamed, and such a character. And this? Well, it would be our first trip to the library. And Lord did I not know what I was getting us into.
First off, this library is more like a museum. HELLO 3 stories-details galore-aquarium built in walls-elevators-fancy-schmancy. Last time I stepped foot in a library? It was you know.... a library. But anyways, that's beside the point here.
Back to Elliana. Wild. She was into the books. Then the toys. Then back to the books. And then the kids? Oh Lord. She wanted to "pet" them. I had to tell her "don't touch" like she's touching a piece of art or something.
Then we would sit on a chair together and "read." She babbled like she's reading. Then there would be a lot of giggling. Oh the giggles. But they were very "quiet" giggles. Like she knew she was in quiet place. And the staring. Lets talk about the staring. She loved looking at this "big" girl across the room. Oh my precious daughter... she needs a sibling.
Pictures of her "staring"
We stayed there for about an hour and a half and then went on to enjoy the rest of our beautiful Monday.
Overall, it was honestly one of my favorite days, and it was very simple. Nothing crazy. But absolutely perfect. And the best part about it? It was completely unexpected. And sometimes?

Those are the best.

  3. awww! LOVE this post!!

We have a library in walking distance from us and when we were pregnant we always took walks and would pass it and say we couldn't wait to take the baby! Now that the weather is getting nicer I'm so excited!! I'm sure Olivia's eyes will light up as well because what child doesn't like books? (not like Olivia doesn't already have at least 100! That child was SPOILED at her shower!)

Love all these pictures! Sounds like a super fun day! :)

  22. I need to visit that library! I've never visited the Seattle Public Library, but the local ones are just a library. I'm impressed she was so well behaved, my kids would have done what they do to their bookshelves at home - pull every single book off and throw it on the floor.
