The tripod, bertha. The good and the bad.

I sometimes wonder if I am the only nutty mama out there that insists on having pictures done at every event. And if at all possible, family pictures.

The problem is, sometimes, there are occasions where there is no one else to take the picture.

In those situations, often times, I will take some pictures of the husband and the baby girl. And then the husband will take some of me and her. And there you have it... a split family.
And then I whip out bertha. The tripod. The-I-take-your-pictures-for-free-stand.
Problem is, I can't see what kind of faces my husband is making. I can't see them, which means I can't stop them.
He thinks this is just the funniest thing in the world. Ruining a perfectly good family picture.
Then when he does smile? The baby doesn't look.
Or when she does? She looks mad.
And then you have the ones that really go wrong. The pictures you don't want people seeing. The ones that really capture the difficulty in family photos with a child.

Yet, they make me giggle. Belly laugh.

The torture my daughter is thinking. Straight torture. In the form of a lens. And a stand.
I just can't help but wonder what my neighbors think of us.

That strange strange family.

  2. I love the rare moments that we actually get a family photo! More times than not they end up on the cutting room floor due to toddler fits and not wanting to be photographed. Lol. U guys are too cute!

  3. LOL this is hilarious! This is EXACTLY why Im afraid to whip out my tripod......because knowing my guy ......we would have a great family pic with his hand on my boob just to be funny!

Take the good faces of andrew and go in photo shop and paste them over his silly faces ...LOL

  4. LOL that last photo is my fave, because that is so all the photos I try and take with a self timer. I'm still trying to smile and look normal and my daughter is going crazy. LOVE it. Some of those photos are actually my favorite haha because I like the real of it :)

  5. I think family pictures/group pictures are difficult no matter how old people are! I swear, if you have more than 2 people in a picture at least one person will have their eyes closed, be looking the other way, mid-sentence... too funny! Poor E, she's definitely had enough in those last pictures! haha

  8. LOL- I love the last couple where Andrew just looks like he is so over pictures and throwing his hands all over the place!

There is just me and my hubby and we STILL have so much trouble getting a good pic together, even with a tripod. Lord, you should see the number of outtakes we got trying to do a Christmas card this year! lol

  12. hahahaha. Love this. I do this as well. Except after like 3 pictures Andy overrules me and tells me we are done. I can't help but laugh at the last pictures.. from Andrew's hand gestures I can immediately picture exactly what he is saying "becky.. she doesn't want to sit still let's be done."

Ahhh. I love your little family.

  16. My kids are going to think I didn't exist for the first 1.5 years of their life because I'm always the one taking photos. I hate our tripod so it's mostly just photos of B and the Bambinos. I completely feel your pain. Kudos to you for insisting on being in pictures though. I wish we had more of me and then from when they were little.

  18. I have the same issues, the pictures Olivia cooperates with Jer doesn't and vice-versa. I always tell him that one day Olivua is gonna ask why all of the pics w me and her all perfect (bc we take 464568978990) and the ones with him and her aren't (bc he only wants to take 3) I think moms are the only ones who understand it takes more then a couple pics to get a perfect pic lol

  21. Ha!!! The fact that Andrew does this cracks me up but would also make me want to kill him if he were my own! Kidding of course, but how funny that Elli actually looks at the camera and looks happy at that when he's just crushing your great family pic!! You guys are too funny!
