The Details
I have been anticipating this reveal for quite some time now. Who am I kidding here. I have been anticipating doing {and finishing} this big girl room, period. So now that we are finally here? I am just as excited to show it off as I was the day we finished. And all the days to follow.
I have been anticipating this reveal for quite some time now. Who am I kidding here. I have been anticipating doing {and finishing} this big girl room, period. So now that we are finally here? I am just as excited to show it off as I was the day we finished. And all the days to follow.
I have to admit, it is by far my most favorite room in the house. By far. It's the room that when I open the door it instantly makes me smile. Each and every time. I am proud of this room. I am happy that I was able to give my pride and joy such a lovely room for a growing big girl. Although I hate to say that she is no longer the "baby" in the family, she is still my little baby and deserves nothing but the ultimate best. Although, we are still having "sleeping issues" {aka she sleeps with us most nights}, she still thoroughly enjoys being in her room, taking her books off her bookshelf, and jumping on her bed. My little toddler.
How did I choose the color scheme? Well, as always, I kind of just "go with it." That seems to be my motto with any of the rooms in the house that I have remodeled. I decide on something {accessory, rug, lamp, etc} and then that sort of chooses our theme. In this case, I knew I wanted grey for the wall color. So that was my deciding factor right there. But it had to be PERFECT grey. I set out asking people for advice, and boy was advice given. I researched tons of wall colors, compared them in different rooms, and eventually settled down with Behr-Gentle Rain. Boy am I ever so happy I did.
Next, I decided on the rug. After all, it's one of the most important pieces in a room. I searched, and searched, and searched, and when I finally found this beauty on Overstock, it was a no-brainer. And it when it came in the mail {well you know, on my doorstep actually, not the real mail-box}, it was even more beautiful than on the computer.
Why did I decide to stencil? Simple. I was searching for rugs I think on Ebay at the time, when one of the suggested items for me that popped up was a stencil. Why? Don't ask me. But it did. And I'm glad it did because next thing I know, I am browsing through the stencils and it was a MUST for me. I had to have it. And I had to do it. Now. Can you imagine what the husband said to me when it came in the mail? First: "What is this." Second: "Another project, Becky, really?" and third: "Who's going to do it?" ME!
Me. Me. Me. Yes. I was going to do it, I did it {8 hours later}, and I, as well as the skeptical husband, are so happy with it. It's not perfect by any means, however the little imperfections blend in so well you would never actually notice them just looking at the wall. I would go as far as to say that I did a pretty darn good job for a first time stenciler. Ahem.
Deciding on everything else? Well, all the other pieces were easy enough to decide on. I knew that grey was going to be the main theme, white, and gentle pops of pink. And I believe that I established just that.
Elliana's reaction to her big girl room?
"Oh WOOOWW... COOOOOL."
Yes. That's my girl.
