The Mean Mug

Elli has this look that she has been giving us for the past couple of months.
She'll flash it at us every once in a while.
But most of the time, she does it to complete strangers.

They'll try to tell her how cute she is, or make her laugh.
And the look comes out.
It's a scary one.

But the funniest time she does it is when she really uses "the look" appropriately.
Like when I have done something that SHE doesn't think is funny.

Or when mama makes a serious face... she has to do it too. Except she looks MEAN doing it.

And then when I make lots of noise and it wakes her up?

Exhibit A. The look.
Not a happy camper.

But what I love most about this picture is the fact that I can see the future.
16 years from now.
This very same exact look.

When she asks to go to her girlfriend's house, and I tell her I have to call "susy's mom" first.
Or when I ask her if its "that time of the month."
And when I ask her for some mommy kisses and snuggles.

The look.
I'll get it, I'm sure.
More often then I would like.

And when I get it?
I'll quickly run upstairs to my bedroom.
Dig through the closet.
Go through the filing cabinet.

And find the picture.
This picture.

Just to remind myself.....
They may grow up one day..... but some things never change.

  1. That is sooo cute & funny!!
    SHe is getting bigger!

  2. Yup, she'll totally use that look a lot in the years to come! At least its cute right now! :)

  5. Sassy pants strikes again!! Hehe, she is so adorable no matter what face she's making!

Yesterday while in a dressing room, I heard a sassy teen daughter mouthing off to her mom. I couldn't help but think, OMG, that must be what I sounded like to my mom all along.

  6. Haha Awwwww She is soooo stinkin adorable!! Lol Oh girl, get ready for those looks in the future! Enjoy it while it's still cute! haha

  7. Seriously love her and all her sassiness. She is going to use this on her husband when she is married. Ultimate wife look for the win.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who envisions these "looks" in the future! Lol

  9. Haha, but she is adorable! You are 100% right, wait until she is 16.. I hate to be a boy she gives that look to! :]

  10. Too cute! I bet you'll see that look often. My 5-year-old daughter has it perfected!

  11. Yes that will be her face in 16 years saying "But mom my friends are going out." She is adorable!!! Too cute!!!

  12. They learn that look at such a young age! Who know kids made the best mean muggers. Still, it's darn cute when they do it :D

  13. OMG! My baby does the same thing! When were are out and people say hi or how cute she is, she hits them with the mean mug! It can be embarrasing!

  16. She is absolutely precious! And this is such a cute post!! The Look... Its bitter sweet because they are showing off their growing personality, but we want them to stay little forever.

  17. It must be something with this age! Every friend of mine with a toddler Elliana's age has been mean mugging lately too!

  20. Jackson has just started his mean mug..mainly with strangers. But as he quickly puts 2 and 2 together, I expect to see that look headed my way as well. I'd definitely keep this photo handy for the 16-year-old Elli!
